Public Art Projects

It is our mission to enhance the quality of life in Pitt County by making the arts accessible to everyone. One way that we do this is through the creation and facilitation of public art within the county. By making the places where we live, work, and play more welcoming and beautiful, we are creating a deeper interaction between the community and environment.

The C.M. Eppes Memorial consists of a relief wall and gateway reminiscent of the C. M. Eppes High School, the only black high school in Greenville, NC that burned down mysteriously in the early 1970's after integration. Brad Spencer, from Reidsville, NC, was the chosen artist, and works in wet bricks that are then fired and assembled by local masons. This was a public art project funded by the City of Greenville, the Pitt County Arts Council through a grant from the NC Arts Council, and the Eppes Alumni.
